Grand Prize Winner

Julienne Zhao, Canada

Title: Rainy Days

“I approached this piece with a realistic style. It is a frog seeking refuge under a leaf from the rain. Accordingly, the words are water droplets. The attempt was mainly just to show how cute frogs can be.

“I am truly grateful for this organization to create awareness for amphibians. Not all, but some people don’t appreciate frogs because they “aren’t cute” or whatever other reason. Amphibians tend to be pushed aside compared to other [more well-known/discussed] animals such as pandas or birds. Thank you!”

A Word From The Grand Prize Winner

“My name is Julienne Zhao, I’m 16 years old and I’m currently a student. My inspiration for art has always been nature; I love depicting animals in scenery. I feel like we often forget or miss the beauty around us because we’re so occupied with what’s ahead. Events such as a simple sunrise or the frost on blades of grass in early morning brings me a feeling of serenity and peace that I attempt to share with others through art.

When I found this opportunity, I was ecstatic! It involved both things I adore: art and animals. I am a firm believer that the natural beauty in the world should be preserved, and conservation is a part of that effort. I am truly thankful for organizations such as this one for their contributions.”
