Save The Frogs Day 2023 in São Paulo with the UNICAMP Natural History Lab

Osteocephalus oophagus - Adolfo Ducke 2 Brazil

Saving Brazil’s Amphibians

The students and staff of LaHNAB (Laboratório de História Natural de Anfíbios Brasilerios – UNICAMP) in Campinas, São Paulo, Brazil, are organizing a Save The Frogs Day 2023 event for the morning of April 29th, 2023, in the conservation unit “ARIE Mata Santa Genebra”.

The event will include setting up a space with a microscope to view chytrid fungus (Batrachochytrium dendrobatidis) cultures and panels, and talking with visitors to the Mata about this threat to amphibians.

We will also take large and small amphibians available at the museum (e.g. Rhinella and Brachycephalus) to discuss different amphibian morphology. We will display spawn and tadpoles and talk about natural history.

We’ll also take an extinct amphibian specimen; play the sound of its call; and talk about amphibian extinction rates.

We are planning posts on the laboratory’s instagram channel @lahnab_unicamp and a banner to post in the Mata Santa Genebra space.

The cost for printing of materials, and for transport and food for LaHNAB students will be ~$90.

The event will be open to the public. Contact mah.retuci@yahoo.com.br for more info.
