BGaming Helps SAVE THE FROGS! Build Wetlands In Mexico

The iGaming provider BGaming has generously donated $1,000 from revenues earned on its frog-themed Aloha King Elvis game to support SAVE THE FROGS! wetland construction efforts in northwestern Mexico. The SAVE THE FROGS! BGaming Award For Amphibian Conservation will fund the design of wetlands at six sites in northwestern Baja California, Mexico.

The wetlands will increase habitat for endangered California Red-Legged Frogs (Rana draytonii), the largest native frog in western North America. These frogs have lost over 70% of their range in California, and in Mexico they are confined to just 10 sites, with less than 50 individuals at each site. With increasing threats to their survival, including habitat disturbance by livestock, exotic species, and infectious diseases, these populations might not hold on for much longer. Building wetlands is the single best way to ensure their future.

The wetland design phase of the project will take place in December 2021 and be led by Tom Biebighauser, who has built over 2,000 wetlands and trained hundreds of biologists in wetland construction techniques. Partnering organizations include Bat Conservation International, Fauna Noroeste, and the Sheltowee Environmental Education Coalition. The wetlands will be designed to look and function as natural wetlands. The wetlands will be built in Spring 2022, and will provide breeding habitat for the California Red-Legged Frogs and a variety of other desert dwelling wildlife. The wetlands will be built using low-cost techniques, and are expected to last for at least a century, with no maintenance required.
