The Wetlands – A Documentary About Restoring Wetlands

The short film titled “The Wetlands” features Norman Allard Jr. and Tom Biebighauser, who share their insights about the importance of wetlands. Allard speaks about how water is the lifeblood of the planet and the journey it takes from small tributaries to large rivers and eventually to lakes. Tom, a wetland ecologist, discusses how wetlands are unique habitats that are home to various species of wildlife and plants that grow nowhere else on Earth. Wetlands are also crucial in cleaning the water and recharging groundwater. They help in reducing flooding and should be protected, restored and preserved. The film highlights how wetlands are often destroyed due to human activity, but restoring them is not a difficult task and can be done at a landscape scale for not much money. Wetlands need to be allowed to ebb and flow naturally to benefit their surroundings and the populations dependent on them. The film concludes by encouraging people to do what they can to help protect and restore wetlands.
